Late January and early February are often quiet in fashion terms.  The end of the January sales are lingering and retailers are just starting to display their early Spring collections.

The months of January and February are the perfect time to have a good edit and organisation of your wardrobe.  By doing this, you will see exactly what clothes you already have, which clothes still fit, any clothes that need altering or mending and any clothes that you haven’t worn for 6-12 months because they no longer work for you and your lifestyle.

Here are my top tips for a wardrobe edit:

  1. Go through each section of your wardrobe at time, so dresses, trousers, skirts, tops, T shirts, knitwear, lingerie, socks, accessories, shoes
  2. Try on clothes to see if they still fit
  3. Any clothes that fit and you enjoy wearing can go back in your wardrobe
  4. Repair any clothes that need repairing
  5. Any clothes that you do not enjoy wearing or no longer work for you can either be sold online (Vinted, EBay, Gumtree) or donated to charity to become someone else’s new much loved item of clothing
  6. Any clothes that cannot be repaired can be recycled using your council recycling scheme.

As you are going through your wardrobe and considering whether to keep an item of clothing, ask yourself these key questions:

  1. Is it my colour?
  2. Does the style suit me and my style personality?
  3. Does it fit really well?
  4. Can I wear this item of clothing with three other items already in my wardrobe?
  5. Will this item of clothing suit my lifestyle?

If no to these questions, consider if you really need it.  If you aren’t sure on the answers to these questions, my Colour consultations and Style consultations will definitely help you learn and understand the colours and styles of clothing that suit you, your style personality and lifestyle.

Finally, identify any gaps in your wardrobe and make a list of items you would like to add in.  You will then be ready to go shopping in the new Spring collections.
